Why does the thread counts on the main Forum page not match the number of threads in the Topic pages?

Nope. On the main Forum page there is a column entitled "Threads" that indicates the number of threads in each Forum topic. When you enter a Forum Topic area, you can clearly see that there aren't as many threads as the main page indicated. For example, the main forum page indicates that the Forum Topic entitled "Site Suggestions" has 29 threads. When I enter the "Site Suggestions" topic area, I only see one page with 9 threads.

Are the missing threads expired?

Probably, there's a setting in your preferences that states how old the posts you want to have displayed when you look at the site. I believe the default is 30 or 90 days or something like that. It in the options under Default Thread Age Cut Off. If you want to see all threads then set it to Display All Threads. Actually I'd never even noticed this feature until you mentioned it.

yes, some of the forums have a default age limit as mentioned.
also, the "total" thread count may not look right either as there are a few private forums for moderators and sponsors that regular users dont have view access too.
