I've had this anemone for almost 1 year now. When I bought it, I was told it was a White Sebae! The 1st pic is in my first SW tank, a 10 gallon:
Once I moved it into the 30 gallon it started to change:
This is what it looks like today:
I am pretty proud knowing I did all the right things to save this dying anemone.
The Tomato Clown had a lot to do with it as well. In the first 2-3 months there were many times I was going to pull it, thinking it was a goner for sure! In the 10g it was under PC CL50/50. When I moved it to the 30 with t5, it hid under the ledge, in the dark, for 2 weeks. It was an easy move too, the Anemone has a solid footing on the rock, has never moved from it in fact. The clown would not leave the anemone, all my shooing only caused it to bury into its home deeper. I ended up lifting the rock, anemone and clown together into the 30 gallon in one swift move. Slowly, it started coming out in the light, and changed color. I don't spot feed it, the Clown throws out everything or eats it herself. If the Tang gets what she throws out she will steal it back and stuff it in the anemone. I am a confirmed "over-feeder", 2 times daily of mysis, brine, cyclops, plus DT's every 2-3 days. My livestock is all thriving, my water is perfect. I change the flow in my tank at least once a week, 4-7 gallon water change weekly, 1/2 to 1 gallon fresh RO water top off just about every night.
congrats, that is actually what it is suppose to look like. when the LFS get them from distributors, they are bleached from lack of light. sebaes are not suppose to be white, like everyone thinks they are. they are a brownish anemone with purple tips. just a little FWIW info for everyone.

Yup, there are exceptions, but white is most often the color of death as far as reef inverts go.
Good stores, including my regular LFS, will make that info aware to customers. In fact, my regular LFS also typically feeds them and gets them back to a healthy size and color before putting them on display for sale.
On the other side... we've also spent the last 6 months or so nursing a large green carpet anemone (a Stichodactyla haddoni) back to health. It was almost snow white when we picked it up. Albeit, this was from a different, and obviously less preferred, LFS. A few weeks later at the same LFS I even heard a clerk refer to it's still-unsold tankmate/sibling as a "rare albino bubbletip" ... I managed to resist grabbing her hand and shoving it into the nearby mantis tank.
oooh, I came home from work today and look what I found:
Hehe, it split! I thought it looked kinda strange this morning, left for work at 6:30am.
Got home about 7pm. My routine is to "glance at the tanks" while I feed the dogs & cats. I finally get to the tank and thought, dam that anemone is moving from the rock it has been on since day 1....then I look closer and started giggling!
The poor tomato clown is not so sure about the "new" one & is pretty much staying with the original. She seems to be "pushing" it away. An anemone actually moving, in my tank, is a new one for me! Wonder where it will settle, and I am fine with anywhere in the tank as long as it survives!
Duh me! I have been so involved in putting my 90g together, I had not paid much attention to my 30g. Just looking up at the pic taken on the 8th above, and I should have seen this coming!
The split is almost completely healed on both and they look great this morning. The new one didn't move at all last night. I am going to guess that it will find one spot and stick to it, like the original did. Hopefully on a different rock. I may do a trade at the LFS, when I transfer to the 90g.
CarmieJo, I feel for ya on that missing BTA! It's no fun when you can't see the pretty things! I've got a beautiful purple reef lobster that I saw for maybe 10 seconds. Now all I see are tentacles through a crack in the rock. It left a shell once, which sits on the monitor at work so I can "enjoy" my lobster, lol!
Both are looking good & doing very well. The splits are healing nicely. Don't think that new one is going to move to a new rock. I am spot feeding it, since there is no clown for it. They are pooping in this picture:
Here's an updated picture of both. It took a lot longer for the parent BTA to heal and start coming out of its cove. Now that it has, I can finally see that the parent split off about 1/3 of itself. My tank also had a 20 degree rise in temperature, didn't phase the BTA's! The new one started to move, and I was hoping it would go on a different rock, but not a chance! Just moved about 2 inches from the Xenia. The Tomato clown still hosts the parent, which is as I suspected she would. Here they are today:
Both of the BTAs have moved, which didn't surprise me. They are still on the same rock, but have moved so their footing is under the rock. I pretty much figured they would both end up doing this. After a year, I have learned that this BTA does not like to be completely exposed to light. It likes to have the foot in a cave or crevice, with the option to be out in the light or back in its cave. So, I am thinking that this is where they will stay now. They've been like this for 24hrs & they would still be moving if they were not satisfied. Both are doing great! The Perculas have not gone near them. They are quickly becoming my least favorite clown fish!
