The Saga Continues

Sorry for starting a new thread. Four times I went into my original thread, entitled "New BTA Owner", and Internet Explorer bombed out.

Anyway, the anemone seems to be adjusting but I'm a little confused. During the daylight hours it expands and contracts. At night when the lights go out it expands more than anytime during the day. Attached is the picture I took tonight (it's been dark in the tank for about an hour) and the BTA is as big as I've ever seen it. Shouldn't it be this big during the day and contract at night? I've only had it for 5 days now. It's eaten four times now and expands a lot more (though not as much as in the picture) after eating. I feel like a new father again...

i am no expert by far, however i think it is just adjusting to your water levels. think about it this way. it was caught ( or however the proscess starts) shipped to a holding place, sold to someone and shipped and then it set in the tank where you bought it from. then it goes to your tank. so it was under alot of stress at diferent times. and i can almost bet that the water levels weren't all the same at each place. its adjusting to your lights the salinity levels you N0 levels and everything esle. it will be ok. when i bought mine it acted weirded for awhile and to be honest it still acts weird from day to day. there is no consistancie.

thats just the way i look at it. i could be wrong but its how i feel

Thanks Wesley. What you described is what I'm hoping. I just thought it was wierd so I wanted to run it by the group.

Personally, I'd stop feeding it and let it rest and adapt. Anemonies don't need frequent feedings. Keep us posted.

What lighting are you using?

yes, this does sound normal.
take Amphibious' advice, let it be for a week or two. let at adjust to the environment

as long as lighting is good, they only need to be every other week, however if lighting is not great, it might need to be feed a bit more often. more like every 7-10 days..

the best way to determine is by observation.. you will learn its behavior in time..

My lighting is 2 65W compact flos, one actinic and the other 10,000K. I have a torch and hammer coral that are doing very, very well under this lighting so I figured it would be sufficient for the BTA. I'll lay off the feeding and see what happens. For the record, it's a shrivelled little ball right now!!

thats what i have on one of my tanks that has a BTA for about 14 months now..
i would start feeding it once a week once it gets comfortable. and adjust as needed.

Just an update on my BTA. Here is a picture of my BTA and a new Cinnamon clownfish. The clown took to the BTA within a couple hours. Both seems to be doing great! Thanks for the help everybody!

A clown hositng in an anemone always seems to make the anemone happier and healthier. This is just from my experience. My Green carpet was kinda withering until I added my 2 black perculas... now he is very open and happy. Good luck
