Pyrocystis Fuciformis

Hello. I would like to ask you about your opinion of the Pyrocystis Fuciformis algae. I want to use it for my reef tank and also to feed the rotifers. I want to inform me about this kind of algae if it is toxic for the reef environment or not. Do you culture that king of algae?

Thanks

Big apologies for taking so long to get back to you! All I know about this algae is that it is a dinoflagellate and bioluminesces(?sp). I know that many dinos are considered to be very nutritious and have been cultured to feed copepods. A number of dinos are also associate/responsible for the red tides. I performed a quick literature search and did not find anything about nutrition or toxicity. Regardless, it could be very cool to have this in a tank. We do not have cultures of this one, but do have other dinos. They are mediocre growers for us. How did you come across this one?

thanks

Thanks for the reply. I am interesting for this kind of algae for the nutritional value and also for the “optical” result. Now I am culturing the Nannocloropsis and the Tetraselmis algae and I want to add and the Pyrocystis Fuciformis but it is difficult to find it. I had made a search to the web and I found some details for this and now I am looking for her.
