When feeding my corals I mix up a group of different food types. The mix consists of, Phyto Feast and Roti Feast from Reef Nutrition, Ocean Fresh Coral Vibrance from Ocean's Blend (available through my website Coral Vibrance) Oyster eggs (when I can get them) and frozen Cyclopeze. This is a very nutritious mix which the corals and clams do well on. Don't get the idea that ONE food is good for all things. Mix it up. Your corals and filter feeders will flourish.

Do you target feed your corals or do just broadcast feed?

First I turn off the return pump from the sump/refugium. I leave the two Koralia Pumps running to disperse a small portion of the liquid food. This triggers a couple of corals to open there tentacles and then I target those. The main pump is timed to come back on in 30 minutes giving ample time for the filter feeders to eat. Any left over that goes to the sump/refugium feeds the pods. I have a lot of pods in there.

That is my basic strategy too. Dick, what type of timer are you using that turns the return back on in 30 min?

Carmie,
I do the same as dick. I use an AquaController JR.

You can get AC timed relays from an electrical supply house. They don't com pre-wired, but they are quite simple to setup.

Keith, if I was looking that up on line would it be AC as in air conditioner or alternating current?

AC as in alternating current. I saw the same Air Conditioning results from google as you did

You need On-Delay relays. So you can use a switch and the skimmer will stay off for a pre-set length of time.

I thought they are cheaper (or maybe they USED to be cheaper).
This should work, bit I would definitely shop around...

Hmm, I missed this question, sorry. I have an old (heavy emphasis on old) Sandpoint Wave II wave maker that has three controlled outlets. Two for alternating circulating pumps, I have my Koralias on and a timed main pump shut-off for feeding. Both circuits are timed and can be adjusted from moments to about an hour. I have the main pump shut-off set at about 30 minutes. I simply push a button to shut-off and it comes back on automatically. It's a fine unit but I think Sandpoint went out of business many years ago. At least I haven't heard anything about them in years.
