Some
LFS are good, some are bad when it comes to advice. A couple years ago, when I was new to the hobby, I inquired about a Boxfish that my
LFS had. I asked the owner if it would be ok in my 3 month old 72 bow front and he replied "Yes."
Luckily I decided not to buy it (until I researched it ) and I'm glad I did. That box fish would have outgrown my tank quickly and most likely would have died...killing the rest of the tank. It was not a fish to be recommended to a beginner, but he did it anyway.
