Skurvey,
I just read your tank thread and two things stand out.
First, you really did your research. I commend you on that!
Second, you learned early-on that your
LFS is not trustworthy both in keeping appointments and knowledge. It's common knowledge among experienced aquarists that the worst place to seek advice is the very place you'd think of to go first, your
LFS. It's sad but true,
IME over 90% of
LFSs are the worst place to get advice.
Sorry you had to experience that. Glad you learned it early. Happy you found TR.
About the leaking bulkhead. If installed correctly they will not leak. If he used a wrench to tighten it, he probably cracked it. They only need to be hand tightened. Personally, I've never used schedule 80 bulkheads even on large tanks. If installed correctly and the plumbing installed without stress points nothing will break or leak. I don't know if you visited my tank thread. Every aquarium is plumbed differently but all should be plumbed true level and square. I was a pipefitter for 40 years and I wouldn't expect a novice to do a perfect job. It is a skill but one easily learned. Here is a link to a pic of my 135 plumbing
Amphibious' plumbing job I wish you lived closer. I would fix that leaking BH. The salt creep would drive me nuts after awhile. At least it drains into the
sump.
Keep us informed, Lori.
