| Gosh, this sounds super frustrating! My first thought was that there must be some manufacturing residue (maybe silicone grease) on the crates. That would explain the lack of skimmate and maybe the cloudiness. But you would think a 25% water change would make a difference. Do you have a DE or cannister filter with a micron cartridge? That might help clear the symptom and then your tank's defenses could take over.
