look at it this way..
the cycle will naturally start if there is decomposition to produce ammonia.
the ammonia will be produced by dead tissue and/or organisms
does it matter if its from a RAW dead shrimp or from the LR???

not on effectiveness no, the will both achieve the same goal.

but on bio-load build up, and initial phase start it will..

see, using the shrimp is totally natural, and since it will provide alot more ammonia, than cured LR, your tank will be prepped for a higher initial bio-load.. but not drastically higher, but you may run into less algae and cyano issues (not scientifically proven though)...

point being is there is that the shrimp method is 100% natural, has many potential positive benefits (while some may be anecdotal, i cant prove that either way). is just as effective if not more than using regular cured LR (uncured would be different)..

why not do it?

as far as forcing nature, your not... you are feeding bacteria.. if you feed them more they grow more.. this is not "forcing" you are "allowing" the bacteria to feed on more, and reproduce more..
if you see the shrimp method as "forcing" than you are also "forcing" using LR, if you add cured live rock, you are forcing the growth of bacteria. if you are using uncured LR, you are "forcing" it even more.. probably more than even the shrimp method

again.. there is nothing wrong with either way.. and i dont think either way is right or wrong.. i do not mean to be confrontation, just want to express my opinion.. and thats all this is..
