I know that my MJ400 cant even push 3.5ft. I use a mj1200 to do water changes. I pump it out of the trash can into a bucket, then into the top of the tank from the bucket. I dont think that it puts out all that much anyway. Maybe about a gallon a minute at that height through 1/2" tubing (fits nice and tight on the MJ outlet). Of corse I have a couple coil of extra tubing it goes through also.

My other thought is if you are going to have a fuge like that, why not hange a remora on it and get some great skimming goign on. They seem to get good reviews and mine worked well on a 10g while I cured a couple pieces of rock. (You might need a board or two under it with a remoa to have it hang nice as it is maybe an inch tall for the standard 10g tank.)
