Yup, there are exceptions, but white is most often the color of death as far as reef inverts go.
Good stores, including my regular
LFS, will make that info aware to customers. In fact, my regular
LFS also typically feeds them and gets them back to a healthy size and color before putting them on display for sale.
On the other side... we've also spent the last 6 months or so nursing a large green carpet anemone (a
Stichodactyla haddoni) back to health. It was almost snow white when we picked it up. Albeit, this was from a different, and obviously less preferred,
LFS. A few weeks later at the same
LFS I even heard a clerk refer to it's still-unsold tankmate/sibling as a "rare albino bubbletip" ...

I managed to resist grabbing her hand and shoving it into the nearby mantis tank.
