My chiller is a drop in too and I think it is pretty loud. But not as loud as a 747.

Of course my husband complains that I won't turn the fan in my car up past low or the exhaust fan in the kitchen on because I can't stand the sound. Thinking about it, I guess it is not as loud as the exhaust fan.
You could consider getting a temp controller, mine keeps my tank within a degree of the set point for each device although you can set the variance to be whatever you want. So for instance I have the chiller set to cool to 80 degrees and it comes on as soon as the temp hits 81 and turns off again when it is 80. I have the heater set to 79 degrees and it comes on as soon as the temp falls to 78.
Are you sure that your temp is not rising because of other devices (pumps, lights) throwing off heat? Is it always at the same time of day? For instance my chiller does not usually run during AC season until the lights are on unless the house has gotten especially
hot for some reason.
