the option in the profile is like a way to automatically subscribe to threads, unchecking it will mean that you wont subscribe to future threads.
for all past threads you have to turn them off manually.
its a
PITA, but really its only the most recent ones that you need to worry about, most of the old threads are dea and wont be replied to anyways, and when they do they you can turn them off when they come up, this is what i had to do as well..
