once you disable that you will still get them based "past" subscriptions.
disabling them is outlined in the link Wes posted, but it sounds like you already did that.

you can manually turn off the notification on those past threads, or wait until people stop replying to them and you will stop getting notified
to turn the notifications off manually simple look at your list of subscriptions using this this
http://www.talkingreef.com/forums/su...ewsubscription

then above the column of check boxes click the top check box, that will check all of them on that page, then at the bottom, under the column of check boxes you can select no notification from the drop down.
repeat this for each page of subscriptions
