Okay...it's time to do a quick update on some of the newest equipment.

My husband recently came back from a trip to Germany with several pieces of equipment. Germany seems to have a greater selection and better prices than here in Scandinavia, so we try to take advantage of our frequent trips down there.

As some of you know, I spent several months debating what sort of calcium supplementation to use - Kalkwasser, Calcium Reactor, Kalkwasser Reactor, Balling Method, etc. I finally decided that for the size of this aquarium, it felt less intimidating to go with a Calcium Reactor. I couldn't imagine the volumes of Kalkwasser that I would have had to mix up for this tank. So, we'll try this out and see how it goes.
We decided on a Schuran Calciumreactor Jetstream 1:

Further info:
For aquaria up to 3000l
etstream-Reactor with cartridge construction, mounted on board together with large volumed BubbleCount. The volume of the cartridge is 2,5 l.
The reactor can be hung outside the filtersump. The Jetstream is the first calciumreactor ever build for which a performance diagram is available !

Technical data:
Outlet max. 150ml/min= 9l/h
Dimensions:
standfloor 330x150mm,
height 600m

Delivery complete with bubble counter BubbleCount and pump Eheim 1250 mounted on the board.

Performance Diagram:

Here you can see the capabilities of the Jetstream reactor to dissolve calciumcarbonate as calciumhydrogencarbonate. Therefore the following parameters were measured: Outflow, numbers of carbondioxide bubbles and degrees of hydrogencarbonate. The Merck-test hydrogencarbonate was used for the titration test. To achieve exact results the outflow water of the reactor was measured after a dilution which osmosis water. Every titration-test gives exact results only until reaching the level of 20°KH. The sample´s result of the titration has to be multiplied with the factor of dilution.

How to read the diagram:
Four of the values belong together. For example: If 120 bubbles/min are pressed into the reactor at an outflow of 120ml/min, one can reach an upgrading of hydrogencarbonate of 17 degrees, in other words these are 57,6 upgraded liters/h. These values however are dependent on the surface of the coral sand and its quality.
