Moving large tank - advice?

I'm very excited and a little nervous - a friend of a friend is outright giving me her 80 gallon reef tank. She had a die-off a few months back, losing almost all the fish, bought a lot of crap from the LFS trying to save it and probably did more harm than good, and now doesn't want to take the time to revive it. I'm driving out (about 40 miles) Saturday to pick everything up.

So I need advice! How much of the water should I try to save, and what should I transport it in? How much of the 4" sandbed? She tells me she has a large purple tang and a dragon wrasse - how do I safely transport those guys? What else should I be thinking about?

Currently I have a very healthy 30 gallon reef, and - here's the ironic part - just bought a used 100 gallon reef-ready acrylic that I got a screaming deal on and it's sitting empty in my living room right now. I don't know which tank will be more appealing to keep - hers or the one I bought. Hers has a traditional sump underneath and the one I bought has everything built into the back - any opinions on that? Should I somehow prep the tank I have here?

Thanks so much in advance for your expertise! -Deeder

P.S. maybe a good podcast topic, Rob? Your show is a lifesaver - literally. Thanks for your hard work.
